Brooklyn is filled with both iconic and gorgeous locations around the city, making it ideal for planning a proposal.
Brooklyn couldn’t be a better choice for a proposal that feels iconic, as well as timeless. There’s a strong mix of scenery, and variety, which creates a truly beautiful backdrop. There’s plenty of waterfront paths, skyline overlooks, parks, and neighborhoods with character, so it’s easy to find a spot that matches the feel you’re going for. Plus, many of the most popular locations are walkable or close to transit, which keeps the logistics simple.
It’s also a great option if you want a setting that feels intentional without being overly formal. You can choose a quieter area if you’d rather avoid the crowds, or lean into the classic views around DUMBO or the Brooklyn Bridge. With a little planning around timing and foot traffic, Brooklyn gives you plenty of classic, picturesque options that will create the perfect romatnic atmosphere for a proposal.
In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know to ensure your Brooklyn proposal is seamless and memorable!

There’s so much to love about Brooklyn, and so many different locations around the city that are equally gorgeous and perfect for a proposal! Here are a few of my favorites.
This is where you will find panoramic Manhattan skyline views, plenty of open space, and quieter corners that create a perfect scenic location for a proposal that’s easily accessible.
Known for its iconic view of the Manhattan Bridge, this area is classic Brooklyn and perfect if you want a recognizable backdrop. It’s also a fun area to just explore with your person!
This spot has a peaceful, elevated walkway that overlooks the skyline and harbor, great for a more intimate moment with a beautiful view.
If you want something more natural and low-key, this park has wooded paths, open fields, and lakeside areas that work well for more private proposals.
For even more epic skyline shots, jump on a ferry! It’s a fun way to wrap up your session while getting some stunning views of the city and the bridge.
Located between Greenpoint and Williamsburg, this Brooklyn park has tons of open green space, making it perfect for photos. It’s a popular place for rec sports, but with all the lush greenery, it’s easy to find a quiet, beautiful corner for a proposal.
The rooftops throughout the area are also great spots for taking Brooklyn engagement photos! This is especially ideal if you live in an apartment building with a rooftop that you can utilize!
If you’re open to heading outside of Brooklyn, here are some other iconic New York City locations that make stunning backdrops for a proposal!

Planning when to propose in Brooklyn can not only determine the overall vibe of your photos, but will also affect the experience. So let’s go over what you should consider!
First, consider the time of day. Do you prefer the soft glow of sunrise in the morning, when the streets are quieter and free from crowds? Or perhaps mid-day, when bold shadows create dramatic effects, though it’s also the busiest time? In the evening, you can capture the golden hour, stunning sunsets, and the city lights coming to life after dark.
Personally, I’ll always recommend sunrise as you can avoid the crowds, but also have the stunning view of the sun rising over Brooklyn. From this angle, it will also put the Manhattan skyline in your backdrop, so it really couldn’t be more ideal!
Next, think about the season. Since NYC experiences all four seasons, each one offers a unique backdrop for your photos. Winter is pretty magical, as there’s a reason it’s featured in so many holiday movies, but it can be chilly. Spring brings vibrant blooms, like those in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park, creating a really vibrant, beautiful setting. Summer has that classic NYC energy, though it’s also the hottest and busiest time. And if you’re after rich autumn hues, fall is perfect as the foliage transforms the city.
It all depends on the overall look you’re envisioning for your proposal and photos!
